Status Report Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plants in Central Europe

Industrial wastewater treatment is an essential component of environmental technology. It ensures that industrial wastewater complies with legal requirements and is discharged safely into the environment.

The legislative situation in the industrial wastewater treatment market can be described as comparatively mature and stable. In Europe, important foundations such as the EU Water Framework Directive and Industrial Emissions Directive have already been implemented.

Nevertheless, the market is characterised by industrial structural change, technological advances and increasingly stringent legal requirements. The market is also opaque: there is usually no reliable, comprehensive data available to stakeholders in the industry. With this study, ecoprog has created such a database. The five countries Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland were analysed.

The “Status Report Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plants in Central Europe” includes:

  • A description of technologies for (industrial) wastewater treatment.
  • An analysis of the most important legal provisions for industrial wastewater treatment at EU level and in the five countries examined: Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
  • An analysis of the industrial structure, industrial water consumption and wastewater generation by country and sector.
  • A presentation of approximately 1,500 industrial and commercial sites that are assumed to have their own wastewater treatment facilities. This includes information on companies, addresses, industries, discharge types and, where available, data on wastewater treatment plants such as treatment technology, capacity and throughput.

The study is available in German language starting from 2,400.net. An English version is available upon request. Customers of our w&b Monitor will receive a discount starting at 600.– €.
