Remarks: Vienna-based oil and gas company OMV AG owns the ReOil recycling pilot plant for the thermal and chemical treatment of plastic waste. The facility is able to process up to 100 kg of plastics per hour and produces 100 litre of synthetic oil per hour. 10% of the project costs were paid by the Austrian research promotion authorities. OMV's ReOil pilot plant, which cost around EUR 10 million, is integrated into the refinery in Schwechat, where plastics manufacturer Borealis also operates a site. The refinery supplies Borealis with petrochemical feedstocks. OMV will further develop the technology together with Borealis. The next plant is expected to process 2 tons of waste plastics per hour. In March 2020, OMV announced that it had agreed to acquire a majority stake in Borealis. A large-scale facility is projected for 2026, using OMV's so-called "ReOil process"
